Artist Statement

My  practice as a visual artist embraces the creation of small objects sculpture, multimedia and jewellery. Each work of art is hand crafted with the intent of developing a dialogue within the public arena regarding masculinity and its impact on women and children through the misuse of power resulting in domestic violence. My research into masculinity, child abuse, discrimination, sexuality and gender issues has led me to a deeper understanding of my life experiences. Reflecting on domestic violence and how this relates to my mother and daughter allows me to recontextualise these memories in small objects and wearable jewellery.

Christopher Hardwick  graduated from the Queensland College of Art in 2012 with a degree in Fine Art, majoring in Jewellery and Small Objects, with a specialisation in Art Theory. He completed Honours in 2015 and has a passion and aspiration to continue further research and study.

Hardwick has exhibited regularly in group shows in Brisbane at Pickle Gallery, Windsor, Percolator Gallery, Paddington, Brisbane Library, and Brisbane Boys Grammar School Art Show. He has been a regular exhibitor and supporter of regional arts through his membership in Vast Arts and exhibited in in Blackall, Barcaldine and the Qantas Museum in Longreach.  Exhibitions in 2012 include NOWstalgia at POP Gallery Woolloongabba, Contemporary Art Society of Victoria biennial brooch exhibition and the Heartland Festival, Blackall. He currently lives and works in Imbil, and is having a gap year before proceeding to further study.
